FL-Sen: LeMieux Makes It Official

by: DavidNYC

Tue Apr 05, 2011 at 11:21 AM EDT

And so it goes:

Former appointed Sen. George LeMieux announced this morning that he's seeking the GOP nomination for Senate in 2012. LeMieux launched a campaign website and made a video announcement on the conservative Shark Tank blog, a favorite venue for Marco Rubio during his successful 2010 candidacy.

LeMieux joins state Senate President Mike Haridopolos, R-Merritt Island, in the GOP primary race. Former state House Majority Leader Adam Hasner of Boca Raton is also exploring a run. All are eyeing the seat of two-term Democrat Bill Nelson.

I find George LeMieux so boring that I just have nothing else to say at this moment.

Good luck breaking 15%, pal
I mean, really. Just who is actually excited about this candidacy?

!
Me. I think he'll be easier for us to squash than Haridopolos or Hasner simply because he is so damn boring.

It is beneath the dignity of SSP
to give this loser a front page diary to himself.  May it be the last...

Haha.
I find George LeMieux so boring that I just have nothing else to say at this moment.

And I bet Florida voters find him so boring that he doesn't have a prayer against Bill Nelson. Jeez, Nelson must really be liking his chances with each passing day! ;-)

Yes, Virginia, there ARE progressives in Nevada!

Though I believe
LeMieux is from the Tampa area, and so far he's the only big candidate from there unless Vern Buchanon runs. With Hasner and Haridopolos both rushing to see who can can be more teabagger, I see LeMieux being able to get at least the partially potent support of moderate South Florida business Republicans and would be surprised if he weren't able to raise at least 3 million dollars, which is more than enough to make him a serious contender for the Republican nomination, even with his ties to Crist.

Though unless Buchanon enters, I keep feeling Haridolpos is going to be their nominee and Nelson will win about 54-46.

two words
NO CHANCE..........

zzzzzzzzzzzzz
Yea, with Mack not running, it does give LeMeow a bit of a path that wasn't there before, but he's just so dull, I can't see him winning the nomination.  I think it's Hasner's to lose at this point as Haridopolos has damaged himself a bunch already.
If LeMeow were to somehow gain the nomination, it's possible for him to beat Nelson I suppose, depending on how all shows up to vote for the main event, but I would expect that Nelson would take enough votes from him up north that he wouldn't manage it.

Has Hasner announced yet?

Ad hoc, ad loc and quid pro quo!
So little time, so much to know!

no
but he is running already(unless some live boy/dead girl pops up); you can count on him announcing soon(possibly around the time the state lege adjourns)

The Washington Post
did a story on March 14th, I believe, and said a conservative political activist filled out the paperwork on Hasner's behalf to explore running for the senate.

Why do people
feel the need to waste money on races they know they'll never win. They could give the money to others who have a much better opportunity.

are you kidding me?
we are talking about politics and politicians; do you really think these folks think of the greater good?.........

You're exactly right.

Because
Because sometimes lighting strikes.  I agree LeMeow doesn't look like he has much of a shot, but sometimes long shots win.  And it's not like it's his money, anyway.  Who knows; if he does respectably, but doesn't win, he could later run for another statewide office that is not so high profile.

yes
Someone probably said something like that to Chris Coons a year or two ago.

Haha
he thinks he has a chance. Did he not forget his former boss Charlie Crist was not only run out of the Florida GOP, but become a pariah among conservative activists?

LeMieux is boring, boring, boring
But with that said, I think his ties to Crist might be forgiven; he didn't do anything to help his old boss in the Senate primary or the general, and he was a solid member of the "no" bloc in the Senate.

This race is begging for a random self-funder to put everyone else out of their misery
I remember a story about Sofia Vergara's multimillionaire boyfriend considering a run, has anyone heard from him lately? Vergara is very popular in the Hispanic community and would be a big asset to him in Dade.

in terms of appointed Senators running again ...
Ted Kaufman's the only one I'd like to see back.  A Lemieux candidacy excites me as much as Paul Kirk or Carte Goodwin trying to get their jobs back, and without the entertainment value of a Roland Burris.

.
I actually enjoyed Carte Goodwin as Senator. He'd make a great Representative. Too bad he just said he won't be running for anything ever.
