FL-05: Ginny Brown-Waite Running Again

by: James L.

Kind of lame:

After stirring up retirement speculation via a cryptic press release Thursday evening, Rep. Ginny Brown-Waite's (R-Fla.) "major announcement" Friday night was that she is running for re-election, and that she set a date for her wedding.

I only hope
her fiance knows what the hell he is doing.  Truthfully, as Republicans go, she's fairly sane.

What a fucking waste of a news conference.

?????
Sane? WTF? She said this in July, "Last week Democrats released a health care bill which essentially said to America's seniors: drop dead," Not to mention that she was an early Rubio supporter. She seems like a straight down republican vote, what makes her any more sane than another republican?

Proud member of the Indiana Democratic Party from IN-9.

I remember her being a voice of reason
regarding the Terry Schiavo case.  She's also part of the Republican Mainstreet Partnership, which is hardly a teabaggers dream.

[ Parent ]
Yeah, but the way she said it...
as shown in this video from Keith Olbermann, it was pretty clear she was reading a statement prepared for her by the insurance companies.  Like Keith said, "you can always tell... when the hostage is reading her own ransom note, and when she is reading one written for her."

In that sense, she may be a bit more sane, and is only doing this, well, for the money.

To me, the quiet/more functional/personable/"moderate" ones are more dangerous
They still vote against us most of the time to almost all of the time.  Yet they get by through being quiet about it or having a moderate reputation.

Brown-Waite still has an 84% American Conservative Union score and a Progressive Punch score of less than 11%.  Granted, that's better than the likes of Jean Schmidt, Marsha Blackburn, and Virginia Foxx, but those are still very crappy scores.

Well.... umm....
good for her, I guess?

überliberal Democrat, male, OH-12 (college), NJ-09 ("home"), Mets, Jets

Gosh
Dang it. We could've fielded a good-quality challenger for this race.

Who?
This isn't a good year for Florida Dems. (When is really?)  The top of the ticket isn't that strong, and several House candidates aren't doing what they need to.

[ Parent ]
Sink is strong
Outside of that, your right.

22, Male, Democrat, PA-18.

[ Parent ]
Personally, yes, but from what
I've gathered her campaign sucks.

[ Parent ]
Well...
She got a better chance to win than Meek, so got to look at it that way.

22, Male, Democrat, PA-18.

[ Parent ]
Well
at least Meek is semi better than a warm body up there. We don't need McCollum riding Rubio's teabagger power coattails into Tallahassee.

Karen Thurman
Held this seat before it got redistricted and then taken away from her by Brown-Waite. In a good year, she might make a good candidate. But frankly, if she were going to run, she should have done so in 2006 or 2008.

[ Parent ]
Charlie Crist for bridesmaid, please

LMAO!!!
That is the funniest pic I've had all day.

[ Parent ]
Too
bad Crist isn't going to the senate. He and Scott Brown could form the "Hottest GOP Senators" caucus.

19, Male, Independent, CA-12

[ Parent ]
Too bad its not the House
There are lots of hot women in the house. The senate...not so much. The only hot woman in the senate is Gillibrand.

[ Parent ]
Oh I don't know
I think for older ladies Barbara Boxer and Kay Hagan aren't too bad looking. Hell so I can be fair the same can be said about KBH. I know nome of these women don't got the hottness of Kirsten Gillibrand, but for older women there still lookers.

Maria Cantwell is smokin' hot

[ Parent ]
Only in the US Senate
Could Maria Cantwell be considered "Smoking Hot".

[ Parent ]
For me
She has some of the most beautiful eyes around.

40, male, Democrat, NC-04

[ Parent ]
Cantwell is actually a pretty good CF
Watched her play softball a few years back during her first legislative campaign. Decent arm.

[ Parent ]
Speaking
of the devil, is Maria Cantwell still a millionaire from her days at RealNetworks?

19, Male, Independent, CA-12

[ Parent ]
I'm not sure
I thought she liquidated most of her RealNetworks options in 2000 for her victorious run against Slade Gorton.

[ Parent ]
Out of all of these
threads, no one has talked about least attractive members of the house and Senate. For me I have to say Jean Schmidt is the ugliest out of all of the females and Ike Skeleton out of the males.

Jimmy Duncan (TN-02)
His face literally scared me the first time I saw it.

Jerry Nadler is a great D
but despite his recent surgery, he would not be a poster child for Michelle Obama's campaign against obesity.

[ Parent ]
Holy Crap!
His head is waaay to small for his body

[ Parent ]
When Bingaman retires
hopefully Heinrich will be the one to replace him.  He'd be added to this caucus.

[ Parent ]
But
Democrats can't join the Hottest GOP Caucus. :P Even attractiveness has become a partisan issue!

[ Parent ]
Then he'll have to be his own
caucus of one.  I think he can handle it.

[ Parent ]
Is it bad I kinda find Rubio attractive?
dies in shame

[ Parent ]
Not unless it makes you donate to him or something
Weird fact: there was a study (I'll try to find the link) showing the more men found Palin attractive the LESS likely they were to vote for her.  Seeing as I'm a straight guy who doesn't find her attractive you'd think I'd be her biggest fan.

Found it
http://latimesblogs.latimes.co...

Men finding her more attractive found her less competent.  I'd suppose that wouldn't hold true with male candidates.

Very interesting. Thanks for posting.
I wonder how much preceptions of age play an effect here.  In other words, do people think younger equals attractive, younger equals less competent and capable, therefore attractive equals less competent and capable.

Or, on the other hand, do people think it's impossible for a woman to be both intelligent and attractive.

Or do the people who didn't like her also not find her sexy librarian schtick attractive.

I do remember John Sweeney making a crack about Kirsten Gillibrand being a pretty face from New York City.

Good question. Not sure how I'd go about answering.
Using Wikipedia, I arranged the members of the House by age.  The youngest woman in the House is Stephanie Herseth Sandlin, who's 39. I think it's fair to say  most straight men would find her at least somewhat attractive, and she's done pretty well politicly.  Interestingly, she's only the 18th youngest member of the House.  The next youngest women in the House are Gabrielle Giffords and Cathy McMorris Rodgers, who are 39 and 40 and respectively, I'd argue are also at least rated as somewhat attractive to most straight men.  They've both also done well politically, so at least in these three instances the Congresswomen's attractiveness and youth have not been liabilities.

Looking at it another way, I counted the percentages of male and female House members below 50.  71 men, 19.8% of men in the House, are younger than 50.  By contrast, 17 women, 17.3% of women in the House, are below 50.  So at least when it came to sending young men and women to Congress their doesn't seem to be a huge bias against sending younger men than younger women, once you factor out any bias a voter may have in sending men versus women to Congress.

One more thing to consider: a lot of women found Obama to be attractive and despite the fact that he had relatively little experience, he was seen as competent by most voters.  Of course Obama's sex appeal may have been effected by his race, and Obama did a much better job appearing competent than Palin.  Still, worth pointing out.

John Boehner's face would match the tan better, I think.

Because it's Ginny Browne-Waite
I barely care, but frankly, this is as retarded as when Blanche Lincoln's staff tweeted that she had a "major announcement" (or whatever), and it turned out to be her fundraising nums. Stop crying wolf, you morans.

The Lincoln one was stupider
All it did was drum up articles about how it may be a retirement announcement because her numbers suck and she is probably going to lose.  Way to do the exact opposite of what you hoped to accomplish.

[ Parent ]
it got attention
mornonic or not, it worked.  next time, just don't look, just don't look (unless it's in tenn.)
